About Integrative Psychiatry

The healing arts have always shared a deep connection with nature. As life-saving scientific advancements emerged, we in Western society became distracted and, over time, lost connection with our literal roots. Compounds originating in a lab have merit. So do those grown in soil. Integrative psychiatry recognizes the value of both.

Integrative FAQs

  • Holistic medicine recognizes you as a beautifully complex being with psychological, familial, societal, ethical, biological, and spiritual dimensions. Holistic medicine is an attitude or perspective, not a specific treatment approach.

I may also refer you for acupuncture, IV ketamine, genetic testing, or nutritional counseling.

Alternative medicine uses only methods that aren’t part of standard Western medicine. Since I do use prescription medications, I am not an alternative clinician.

  • I do recommend prescription medicines for certain symptoms, particularly if symptoms are severe. Not everyone taking prescriptions needs them forever, so I’m always looking for chances to ‘deprescribe’ (take away a medicine that isn’t essential). One very effective use of medication is to calm symptoms down enough to allow for focus in therapy.
